Big (Bharta) Brinjal has a remarkable shiny, dark purple skin. Its size can be upto 10 inches and shape is oval. The flesh is spongy and cream colored. It possesses anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant properties. It tastes the best when the seeds are small, the taste becoming bitter as the seeds grow bigger. It is traditionally used in India for preparing bharta (hence the name). It can also be fried alongside tomatoes and spices to prepare tasty vegetables.
